Yeah, but would you go back?

Posted by: mrmadden | 21 September 2009 | 13 Comments |

Phew!

It has been a bit since the last posting.

Many of you people have moved on to eighth grade or high school.  That is weird to think about.

Get to the point, Mr. Madden:  How has the school year gone so far?

Are you classes what you guessed?  Without mentioning any names, how are your teachers?

What is your favorite part of the day currently?  Going to school?  Bus ride?  A particular class?  The hallways?  Lunch?  Leaving school?

Here’s one:  What has surprised you the most about this school year?

I LOVE high school so far-but it’s nothing compared to middle school. My classes are exactly as i imagined they would be like and for the most part my teachers are awesome. my favorite part of school has to be lunch. it’s the only time of the day that all my friends and i can reconnect and talk about our day. we were lucky that all 6 of us got the same lunch. the thing that suprised me the most this year is that high school is really not that different from middle school-it’s only bigger with more people and exams. i would still perfer to be in middle school because i know my way around and am cool with the teachers, here i’m still working on making connections.

I agree with Aman, I love high school a lot better than Middle school now that I have compared the two. I love all my classes…so far :) At the beginning I was so worried about getting lost, just like every other freshman, but I knew my way around within TWO days! It was a good feeling.

I won’t say her name but there is a certain math teacher I COULD live WITHOUT.

And favorite part..hmmm that’s tough either lunch, or geometry…yes I know geometry?!?!? yes you heard right, I only like that class because there are so many awesome people that I can socialize with ;D

Band is interesting, I like having it in the middle of the day, as a break from the stuffy building its nice to go outside and get some fresh air. Except for when it is only 50 degrees and raining out, like it has for the past two days…..then it isn’t the best– at all.

HI MR>MADDEN

i like seventh grade. I love to write poems now. The way wordscan be expressed is impossible

Aman and Delanie,

Hey!

Your comments are great to read. If I were an eighth grader right now, I would feel much less stressed about the year to come.

It is fabulous to hear from two of Hayes’ best. (And you know I mean that.)

-Mr. M

Seventh grade mystery poet,

Words are amazing, I agree with you.

Poetry is astounding the way it uses so little to say so much.

-Mr. M

Mr. Madden,

Seventh grade is pretty good. I finally got to read the twilight series – I was so addicted to it I had to give it to my friend during some of my hours so I wouldn’t be tempted to read. Band is really fun this year. That has to be my favorite class. Solo and Ensemble is coming up so we have lots of practicing to do.
Following close behind on the favorites class list is gym. I know, gym! Who would of thought of me being even somewhat good at it. doing three laps around the gym isn’t all that hard. I run farther in the morning trying to get to the bus stop on time.
This past week in science my teacher put on some music when we were working on our rock booklets and a song came on that almost the whole class (I didn’t) knew. I quickly learned the chorus and sang along with the rest of the class. It’s now my favorite song.
Economics (in world history) Is much harder than I thought.

P.S. I can’t wait until Halloween. How about you?

Laura,

Hey! Thanks for your comment. I am so glad that you are enjoying seventh grade–lots of superb teachers and all. What makes economics difficult, do you think?

Hope to hear from you again soon,
Mr. M

Hey Mr. Madden!

I think the thing that makes economics so hard is that the textbooks are written for high-schoolers so it’s hard to understand what they mean. My teacher does a good job explaining it though. There’s a lot of vocabulary, so if you don’t make sure you understand one, most likely, you won’t be able to understand the other.
My brother is being really annoying. He is taking German this year and is answering my questions in German. Sometimes I wish I knew German just so I could be annoying back. It is so hard to say the words though. I’ve tried ( and failed). I hope to take French. It’s a pretty language.

P.S. Do the Turkish come from Turkey or from Turkmenistan?

Mr.Madden,
Honestly, I really am not enjoying the eighth grade at all. I don’t like change and there was a lot of it. I really don’t like the new band room I really don’t like the new lockers and a great majority of my best friends are now in high school and I rarely get to see them anymore. School has barely started and i can’t wait for it to end!

Laura,

Turks are from Turkey. People from Turkmenistan are called Turkmens or Turkomens (according to this Wikipedia article).

Why do you ask?

-Mr. M

Grace,

Yeah, change is tough sometimes. I used to be reluctant to embrace change, but, a lot of the time when I was not so excited about change, even scared of it, I realized that it was exciting as well.

Just a thought.

-Mr. M

Mr. Madden-

I just asked because I was remembering a song from last year in select choir. We sang it once and labeled it off as too hard so we did a different song instead. I liked it though. It was a children’s song about the Turks invading the country. It was strange and fast. The only words I remember from it are” fly little bird now, up into the sky now, hurry, hurry, will you, they will catch and kill you, Fly!” It was at the end of the song. Sounds lovely doesn’t it? (Trying sarcasm) I can’t remember the rest of it because my brother is playing the batman theme- oh wait- it just changed to Indiana Jones- anyway it is very distracting!

I agree with Grace. The new band room is supposed to be bigger, but is just more crowded. There is a ramp going down the middle and we are all squished into one side of the room. The practice/storage rooms even have names. The Cupboard of Despair, Music Library, Office, and the other one… I forgot the name. The story is that tweetie bird got murdered in the Cupboard of Despair and that is why there is a stain on the floor. (It’s really a water stain (I’m guessing)).

Mr. Madden

I have only been on your blog about 3 times. That was in 6th grade. Since then I moved to Houston, Texas. It is amazing down here. If you ever get the chance to come down you have to do it. Thier is never a day that you get bored its awesome.
