Staying up until “Dawn”

Posted by: mrmadden | 31 July 2008 |

All right, I know where the comments will be going over this weekend and a bit beyond.  I only would like to mention that, in order to not spoil anything for anyone, I will be staggering the publishing of the comments regarding Stephenie Meyer’s new release, Breaking Dawn.

I am very curious to read your reviews, but, in order to be fair to all, I will be a bit cautious in publishing comments.  They will be published, but maybe not immediately.  Yes?

Just so you know and don’t throw tomatoes.

This isn’t a review of course, but I am sooooooo excited for Friday night/Saturday morning. I am going to party at Barnes and Noble even though I have already ordered the book…..I am that excited. I check her website like every hour just to see the countdown clock!!!!!!!!!!!!

Delanie O.
If you don’t hear from me in a couple days, you know where I’ll be…..

Whohoo JKRowling is coming out with a book later this year. It is the Tales with Bettle The Bard. This book was left to Hermione by Dumbuledore when he died.

Tess

P.s. Mr. Madden, so you are delaying the posts so no one spoils the book for anyone else?

Tess,

Well, that is what I am thinking.

I have two options as I see it:

1) Hold all the Breaking Dawn comments for a week, then publish them. The problem with this choice is that you people won’t get to respond “live” to each other’s thoughts. I guess that I don’t really like this idea now that I see it in front of me.

2) Publish your reviews/comments, but edit them in case they contain spoiler information. I trust that you guys won’t give away big stuff, so this option appeals to me the most because we don’t lose the enthusiasm or freshness.

What do people want? I will go with the majority.

-Mr. M

Mr. M,
Or you could just tell anyone not to post until a week after it comes out…. Like, if there is a way to ‘lock’ it or something so no one can write about it.

Delanie,

Thanks for your idea. I will hold off on any comment publishing for a bit longer so that I can hear from other people.

Only 11 hours and 14 minutes–oops, 11 hours 13 minutes 45 seconds, wait!

-Mr. M

Ha! You guys are a bit weird (Yeah look who’s saying that ;) ) I went to the midnight party for Harry Potter and that was it. I don’t see why you guys have to pick it up at midnight. I ended up getting my copy of HP7 at 1:30 because the line was extremly long. Although it was fun because Barnesd and Noble decorated the whole store like diagon alley. You guys have to tell me that if they did that for Twilight.

Tess

Tess, I heard that there is going to be a name draw for a gift basket, a scavenger hunt, a raffle, a drawing cotest, and a trivial quiz…..it isn’t just a chance to stand in line.

Delanie

Im not gunna lie, im pretty excited about getting this book. ( ha, wow i just took a minute to read what i just wrote and i cant believe im actually excited about a book).
Im also a little dissapointed knowing its the last one in the series.

P.S- mr.madden- heres what i figure, everyones going to get the book and probably read it in two days, so why lock the comments? everyone will have already read it rite away, and so theirs no surprise to spoil…….

BREAKING DAWN RELEASE IN:
3 hours 42 minutes 24 seconds & 172 milliseconds

Personally, I like Delanie’s idea. It would be easier for me to just not comment for a week. That way, when commenting is available, I can go right into all of the juicy stuff (my favorite!).

I, also, am going to the party. I’m mainly going for the drawing contest that I’m in, and the book. I would rather wait in line until 1:30 am than order Breaking Dawn early. I already stay up that late, if not later, every night during the summer anyways (I hate getting ready for bed. It’s easier to just procrastinate for hours. Once I can’t keep my eyes open, I usually go to bed).

I want Breaking Dawn so bad, I’m actually getting a stomachache.

Kaitlyn S.

Boy, is it quiet around here. Shh! People are reading!

Remember to feel free to express your reaction to the novel at any time. I can always hold the comments for a few days. I will be in northern CA–redwoods country–with my copy, this week, but I will have access to the blog.

Your anticipation has been wonderful to read.

-Mr. M

Hey! Is there like a delay on the books being shipped or what? I don’t think I am going to get my book in time for when I go to blue lake.

I am almost done with BREAKING DAWN!
Excuse me I have to go read now!

Delanie O.

IT TOOK ME
2 days 17 hours and 13 minutes
to read Breaking Dawn from start to finish.

I could’ve finished in less than 2 days (one day is impossible for me to read 754 pages–I’m a slow reader), but I wasn’t home for at least 18 hours. That took away a bunch of reading time. Everyone
was getting sick of my sudden obsession to read non-stop. My sister got mad at me for it (she hates reading) and my parents claimed that they never saw me anymore (it was just 2 days, not that dramatic).

Enough of that.
I liked Breaking Dawn. Yes, there were boring parts occasionally, I got mad at characters, and everyone I talked to didn’t seem to like it, but all in all…I like it. I was disappointed though that nothing made me cry like the three other books, and the beginning of the last chapter made me think of nachos. It was so cheesy! I still will be rereading Breaking Dawn, no matter how much people hate the book.

I know it’s fiction…but…
In my opinion, I truly believe:

The Twilight Saga is over. Done with. Finished.
The actual story on the other hand…
just got a enormously humongous burst of energy and isn’t going anywhere for a long, long time. I’m guessing around FOREVER.

Well I finnished close to Kaitlyn’s time. Like her I would have finnished earlier, but I was at my cottage when I started reading, and I chose to lay in the warm heat of the sun rather than read…..I know, I know, I should be punished.

Comments About the Book:
1. I absolutley HATED the entire thing. It changes my whole perspective on the series, and it will be hard for me to re-read them with the thought of the terrible ending.

2. I wish I never read Breaking Dawn(see comment one)

3. Edward’s and Bella’s relationshp was non-existant. There was no romance except in book one….and that was only 7 CHAPTERS!

4. There is something that I can’t mention because people are still reading it. All I will say is I.M.P.O.S.S.I.B.L.E.

5. It reminds me of fanfiction. It is like some little fangirl came up with this story and wrote it. Which leads me to say that her writing was horrific. It was really bad.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst) I give it a 4.5. I think that there are going to be a lot of people that agree with me from what reserch I did online last night…..

Delanie O.

Hey just for the record I finished Harry Potter 7 in less than 24 hrs. I got the book at 130in the morning and I finished it that next afternoon. The only reason I finished the 759 pgs is because i had an hor and a half car ride there and back sp I bascally had 3 hours of uninterupted time.
It’s is just about killing me to here that you guys have almost finished your book. I thought my book came today but It was my mom;s book’s she ordered instead. I am going to camp in the morning so I will get the books in my care package when my mom sends it. That will probably take three days though. :(

Tess

Well, it took me 3 days to read the book, and thats pretty much all i did. Im sad to say that i was a little dissapointed…. from page like 160-300, i was completley bored out of my mind, its like, who needs 200 pages to talk about wolves watching over a house??

Im also dissapointed by the ending…. i mean honestly, their couldnt have been a little bit more action?

All in all, im gunna miss reading the twilight books, and theve treated me well….. so long twilight…..

Currently, I am on page 489. I got my copy at about 10 o’clock last night because my mom decided not to tell me for fear that I would freak out on Renae and her sister (I was with them the whole day) and have been reading almost nonstop since 5 o’clock. I absolutly love it so far. I have been disapointed at parts, and I agree with Kaitlin that there are some boring parts. Well, I’m off to read some more.

Wow!

I am typing this comment sitting in Chinatown of San Francisco, so I will be brief.

Hmm–doesn’t appear that the book has won over many fans. My copy awaits me in Lansing.

I knew about the overall reaction from a teacher in England, but I had hoped for your all’s sake that different strokes for different folks.

Will a re-read make a difference? Or would it just leave a worst taste in your memory?

One more to go, correct? Was this an intentional drop on Ms. Meyer’s part? Probably not.

Oh, well. The future cannot be told, so maybe the best has been saved for last.?

Fingers crossed.

-Mr. M

By the way, the Italian food and chocolate (exception for KRS) here are simply not of this Earth.

No Mr. Madden, I refuse to re-read Breaking Dawn, it will only make me barf even more. And gag I should add. I honestly have NO IDEA WHAT WAS IN HER MIND WHEN SHE WROTE IT!!! There a lot of people that have a death wish for this book. I already forgot what happened because I refuse to keep the memories.

Delanie O.

Delanie,

Harsh words you have! Please don’t get too angry at Stephenie Meyer. Just take a few deep breathes. Please.

Mr. Madden,

Like I wrote before, I am going to reread Breaking Dawn. I knew that I would as soon as I finished the book. I’m going to read the whole saga actually. I have warmed up to Jacob, so I can handle the 2nd and 3rd book now. Erica P. is currently reading my copy of Twilight at this moment. I will start as soon as I have that book in my possession once again.

Kaitlyn S.

by the way::
20 DAYS UNTIL SCHOOL
I absolutely cannot wait. No joke.

Wow! I didn’t know that anyone that would want to read Breaking Dawn would hate it! I mean, I should probably not say this because I am only reading the first book…Well, I already did. At first, I thought that I would want to read the whole series but then I decided I wanted to try out other books instead. I most likely will read the rest of the series later on but for right now, it’s not going to happen. After reading the Just Read It! comments, I decided I’m going to read some books by Meg Cabot. that is not the reason why I don’t want to read the next three books. I still think that Stephenie Meyer is a great author.
Now I’m going to go off topic. I just went to the Sleeping Bear Dunes. It was really fun. The sand was really hot and we were bare foot climbing the dunes and it was tiring after a while. Then we went to Lake Michigan and just hung out on the beach. All together it was really fun because my relatives from New Jersey came with us. The Dunes are only about an hour away from our cottage.
Bye!

Just a note to check out the newest widget on the right. It is Vodpod, a “video on demand” site for collecting online videos.

-Mr. M

Contrary to what the rest of you guys said I actually like the book. I thought that it cleared up all of the wrapped ends and I liked how Jacob is still in Bella’s life.

Tess

Tess,

Thank you for the parking nod. It gets really foggy out there in the dark parking lot, so I get nervous, put it in park, and dart to the door with no thought to symmetry or lines.

Hey, it was good to read an opposing comment on the Breaking Dawn reviews. I have been reading some online, and they seem to be all over the place. I am pleased, however, that you folks don’t follow the “Stephenie Meyer can only write great books” crowd, and you write your reviews from your own, unique perspective. (I also greatly appreciate the respect you show each other for points of view that you may disagree with entirely. That is what makes this blog go!)

I am curious to know what she thinks of the book. Anyone read or hear anything to share?

-Mr. M

mr. madden,
what did you think about breaking dawn? i thought it was a little strange. i just thought things moved way to fast.
-rachael

mr.Madden, I loved Breaking Dawn! but I think things happend a little to fast. I couldn’t stop reading though. p.s i miss your class!

Hey what’s with the parking nod?????

Geez, Tess, you threw me for a loop with your “parking nod” question, so I went back to the original comments, and found: “Thanks, Tess, for the parking nod.”

Tess, I think that you may have left a comment a while ago regarding how I tend to park my ChiSox-mobile at school a bit oddly. The “nod” refers to a comment about my idiosyncracy.

Sorry for the confusion.

-Mr. M
