“I don’t believe what I just saw!”

Posted by: mrmadden | 2 June 2008 |

177/180. Wow. What percentage is that, anyway? Ninety-something, right?

We have experienced 177 school days, give or take a few hours. I have had several memorable or hilarious or crazy or zany or sad or Wow! or Hmm… or big sigh moments in those 177 days.

One the best moments for me this 07-08 school year came recently involving a former student who is a poet, but doesn’t quite know it–yet. I offered a blank journal for summer poetry writing, added that I thought that this person needed to write, and the smile that sparkled in this person’s eyes reminded me quite clearly why I love teaching. This person didn’t have to say anything, it was right there resting on the face of a writer.

So, enough about my moments, what about you? You people are out there in the seats of the classrooms, pounding the pavement of the halls, chomping on whatever you chomp on in the cafe, what re-tellable tales have you to share?

You know, an event does not have to be amazing to share–just something that gave you pause.

That’s all.

Speak up! It is your write.

Mr. Madden,
That would be 98and1/3%.
Hmmm… Let’s see what is one thing I remember about 7th grade. right now I can’t really think of anything. So I guess I’ll wait until other people comment then I’ll bounce a story off of them.

The moments that I tend to remember, aren’t exactly what someone else might call worthy of remembrance. Though, in my eyes, memorization is crucial for these moments. A simple conversation with someone that I talk to every day, or a normal act of motion that catches my eye could easily be chosen as one of the many flashbacks that are compacted in my memory file.

For example:
A couple weeks ago, in my language arts class we were just getting into writing our research reports. To brainstorm what we wanted to write about, everyone was given a big piece of paper. We chose the main topic and put it in the middle, and then narrowed it down from there. Not long after we started this, I slipped into a phase of boredom. My solution: doodling. I wrote in 3D, drew pictures, and made a pretty good sized “I’m bored!” Later, I began to write the word “Mad” (it’s part of a song title), but somehow during that process I ended up writing “Me.” Below it, I wrote “Hi.”
The person sitting next to me read what I just wrote, and said, “Me Hi?? What is that?!”
While making a line between the two words to separate them, I said, “It’s Me…and then Hi. They’re not together.”
The person didn’t seem to like the “Me. Hi,” and decided to make it “Me Hi,” not “Me. Hi.” We went on and on. It officially became “Me Hi.” We definitely had an…interesting conversation.

P.S. Sorry. I’ve never been that skilled at making a long story short.

Ok, so I finnally thought of a story. One day in science class someone asked if we could listen to the radio, but instead the teacher put on a Curious George cd. Me and one of my friends were making fun of it so I sang a long to this one song called 3 R’s. Eventually I ended up likeing part of it do I bought it off of iTunes. Now that song is my weird theme song (if I have one) and it is currently on my iPod.

One of the best memories of seventh grade was when the 7th grade band got accepted into this Michigan band coference. It is like a REALLY, REALLY big honor to be part of the cofenence, because only the best bands in the entire state of Michigan get to play. There was only eight spots and the hayes 7th grade band got chosen. It made me feel really confident inside. Which means that our 7th grade band was better than the 8th grade band. Mrs.Z even said she wouldn’t have sent in our tapes if she didn’t think we would make make. (wait does that make sense??)

Hey Delanie
Just becasue their are some eightgrade band members that could read this blog I just wanted to say this the eight grade band is good to were we just more “experenceid” than them. Oh yeah i wasn’t there for that whole announcing thing because I was formating the Panther Press which didn’t get published when me and 3 other people put 3 class peiords into it whhile the rest of the class did much easier stuff :( >:(

Tess,

I wouldn’t be sad if I were you about missing Journalism for 3 days. I dreaded those long hours of nothing…literally nothing. I kept wishing that I could be in your position. I love doing the stuff that you got to do. It’s much better than pretending to read a newspaper for almost an hour and then playing Silent Ball for 15 minutes (never ever liked that game). I got headaches from it even when I was out.

I just wanted you to feel better about your position for those 3 hours of Journalism.

Kaitlyn S.

Yeah I wish you were there too I like formatting stuff.
