Well, well, well. Here we are, Cinco de Mayo, and with a new Stephenie Meyer book just released–The Host.

Now, I happen to know that several Meyer/Twilight saga fans are waiting eagerly to read the book. Even knowing that this particular Meyer novel has no connection to Bella or Edward; coupled with the fact that The Host is written for an adult sci-fi audience. Nonetheless, we all know that millions of Twilight fans will gobble up the new work.

Obviously, the publisher, Little, Brown and Company are on it:

So, who among you is looking forward to reading The Host? How do you think this new work of fiction will go for Ms. Meyer? Some people say that she is taking a risk by deviating from the Twilight course so brashly. Especially with the movie version beginning to get press. (Check out the YouTube trailer here.)

Or, is it her right as an author to show that she can go outside of Forks, WA, and be successful in another genre, with another intended audience?Hmm.What does the author, Stephenie Meyer, have to say about her new work? Click here to go to a YouTube video with the author talking about the book.

What say you?

It’s remarkable to me how time flies so fast. I feel like just 9 days ago I was reading an article about “The Host” for my very first time. Now, I’ve probably read that same article more than a dozen times, and other ones the same amount. The book seems especially pleasing in my opinion. Whoever is thinking that writing “The Host” was a bad idea, is just downright out of their minds! The book is different. I’m looking forward to seeing the new characters develop into my heart (like some “Twilight” characters). I am so excited to know that tomorrow I will be able to put my hands on the new Stephenie Meyer book. I want to start reading it as soon as I buy it, but it’s going to be hard to put down the current book that I am reading (”Pride and Prejudice”).

Well, just like anyother Twiliteire, I went out at six a.m. for the Host;]

And it’s not bad… it’s just not…Twilight.

That’s as much as I have to say so far… I’ll keep you posted!

Kaitlyn and Haley,

This is a first, I must say. The first time in my memory that an author has gone from an enormously successful YA book–books, in Meyer’s case–to an adult novel in a different genre.

So, I guess what I am trying to say is that I respect Stephenie Meyer for taking such a risk. But also, be patient–it is not Twilight, but maybe that is the point.

Hey, check out my new Shelfari widget a bit lower on the sidebar. Pretty fun, and, as a Web 2.0 application, it is web-based and free!

I haven’t read The Host yet but it seems good to me. I like science fiction novels becasue they usually provide weird theorys that are fun think about. This book reminds me of another series that I read in elementary schools called The Animorphs. It is also about Earth being invaded.
Right now I am rereading A Wrinlkle in Time by Madeline Le’Engle. It is really good.

P.s. I am just bought a song of of iTunes and it just so happens that they have changed their terms of agreement. I scrolled down it to see how long it was and that thing was huge!

Tess,

Yes, I updated my iTunes, and it seems like there are more and more restrictions as well.

Anyway, I spoke with the only person I am aware of to this date that has finished The Host. He is a sixth-grader and an avid Twilight saga fan. This person enjoyed Meyer’s new novel, and said that he didn’t think it would be a tough read for teen readers, even though The Host is being billed as an adult sci-fi book.

Anyone else finish the book yet? It is quite a tome. Write your review here when you get a chance.

Thanks,
Mr. M

It’s hard for me to get into too. Like I said earlier, it’s just that it’s not Twilight, and that’s what I’m looking for. So… I haven’t finished it yet.

I know that Kaitlyn will try and get me to read The Host, but honestly, I am a romance-genre-type of person. I am not really into the whole ‘things from another planet/aliens/things invaiding earth’…..WAIT! wait, I know twilight is a fantasy, but, back to point A, it has romance.
Now if someone read it and convinced me that it wasn’t alll action and fighting, then MAYBE I will read it.

p.s. I think I am going to explode with excitment someday….I AM SO EXCITED FOR THE TWILIGHT MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Delanie,

Yes, it will be interesting to see how the new book is received by Twilight fans–especially those on Team Edward.

The movie: So, Delanie, you are not one of those people who is not sure if they will see the film? You don’t worry about the movie changing how much you–obviously–enjoyed the novel?

-Mr. M

ohmigosh!!!! I think the producers/directors know they have a VERY important plot they are dealing with and so I am very positive it will be the bestseller movie all over the world.

Twilight is a world phenomenom, I think it will even out-selll Hannah Montana!(*shuddered at the thought of her name*)

Delanie O.

I am not far into “The Host” at all. Like Delanie, I want to read a book that’s based on 100% romance. So far, “The Host” has a small amount of romance, but not the way I like it. It’s not what I have been hoping for, but you never know…maybe.

Kaitlyn S.
P.S. Delanie, I’m totally with you about the whole shuddering at the thought of Hannah Montana’s name!

Ditto on the Hannah Montanna!

I really like a lot of scifi/action/aliens/magic books because they usually have different “additions” (for lack of a better word) to our world that are fun to think of what our world would be like if we were in that book. A couple of good book like that are Poison, The Gatekeepers series and Eragon.
