Sticks and stones and nasty rumors

What is cyberbullying? Do you know? Have you been a victim of cyberbullying? Do you know anyone that has ever been a victim of cyberbullying?

I am asking that you don’t stop, open up another tab or window, and look up what cyberbullying means, or what it is. Instead, I really and truly want to know what you know about it. That is way more interesting to me than showing your amazing ability to surf and discover.

So, if you know a little, share a little. If you know more, share more. Either way, everybody learns something.

I can say that I have never been a victum of cyberbullying. Wanna know my secret…I don’t have a myspace, OR I don’t have IMing. Nope! Just regular old email…

Delanie O.

Delanie,

Thanks for your comment!

Yes, this is difficult, the whole, “Do I get a MySpace or Facebook account?”

As some people get older, graduates from college or high school, they realize that many colleges, universities, and companies tend to view their MySpace or Facebook pages to find information about a person who might be applying for admission to college, or applying for a job.

But you definitely seem to be a vote on the side of caution–and that usually doesn’t hurt.

I have IMing and email that;s about it. The only problem I can see with this is if someone gets on your friends screename and then they sart saying mena things to you but it isn’t really them talking and then you get mad at your friend but your friend doesn;t know why and then they get mad at you and no one really knows why.

Thankfully, I have never been a victim of cyberbullying. Most people who are bullied have a myspace and don’t protect themselves on it. You can be cyberbullied whether you know the bully or not. It’s all just a matter of being cyber smart.

Mr. Madden! :)

I hope you are enjoying your weekend! I would say that cyberbullying is simply someone being mean to someone else over the internet. It is said that it is a lot easier for people to be mean over the internet than face to face. It’s sad that it is such a common thing that people do.

Love,
Ashley :D

Ashley,

Thanks! Yes, I had a great weekend, spending a chunk of it at the East Lansing Art Fair. Always great fun, and good people-watching.

You know, you made me think when I read your comment. So often, I hear adults talk about how they received this “hot” or “mad” or “flaming” or “rude” e-mail letter from someone. Usually, what I hear in the story is that a person who was unhappy, very unhappy, about whatever, decided to send an e-mail when they were upset–rather than waiting to cool down–and say some fairly rude or strong words that they would not have said to the person’s face.

When I think about it like that, I often think how much better the world might be if people were forced to speak to each other face-to-face, rather than sometimes hiding in cyberspace.

That “Send” button is one powerful little puppy, huh?

-Mr. M

Mr. Madden!

Yes, that “Send” button is one powerful little puppy! haha

I very much agree with you about how the world might be better if people were forced to speak to eachother face-to-face. Most people probably wouldn’t have the guts to say some of the things they say in cyberspace, to someones face.

Love,
Ashley :D

Mr.Madden, I don’t think I have ever really been cyberbullied but I know how nasty it is.I don’t understand why people start it it just starts problems and situations that no one should be able to start.I think if you cyberbully someoen you should have your account deleted, because it is unexceptable. All it does is make people feel bad about themselvs wich is never a good thing.I mean you don’t go around saying the things you say online face to face with that person.Personaly,I think its a waste of time and enternet accsess.-Kelsey(:
