37 school days?  Can it be?  Check my math, someone, there must be more time!

Here we are at spring break–already.

What is in store for you?  Any trips?  To the store?  To Hawaii?  To your relatives in Indiana?

Share the events of your break with MadWords!  I will be traveling to Chi-Town (Chicago), my home town for a few days, and I will check in with you folks to hear and share thoughts, ideas, and episodes.

What have you been up to lately?

AGHHHHHHHHHH! There’s only 8 weeks left in the school year. I’m sad and disapointed, because in about 8 weeks I am going to slip into the never ending summer boredom. Who-hoo. And then after that I have to get new teachers and a new schedule and everything that I have gotten used to will change. I am kind of depressed. Oh well I guess I just have to get over it.

Tess

Tess,

Quick response: Your 8th teachers will be fortunate to have you occupying a seat in their classrooms.

Tess, wait, what if you looked at your new teachers, classes, etc. as a journey into the somewhat unknown?

And summer? Hey, you can’t predict the future, right? Could be that you will have some interesting experiences this summer that will be forever etched into your memory!

That’s the exciting part about the future–it hasn’t happened yet.

Next weekend I am going to travel down south…Not too far, only to Ohio, were my pal lives. She used to live in Michigan but moved in 4th grade. I am really excited to see her. I’ve been to her house already, it is just this is a relationship I want to hold on to.

Right now I’m actually in Florida. It’s sunny and warm…but…in a few hours I will be leaving. My spring break started March 28th after school. My family and I loaded up our van and headed to my grandparents house in Florida. So now I have to come back to reality (a.k.a.-homework from the three days of school that I missed). Yay me!!…

37!? You have to be kidding me! I need more time to have those long 3 months of no school sink into my brain!! School is the only real place where true memorable events happen (for me at least). No!!

Kaitlyn,

I am not now going to offer advice–I don’t believe that that is why you wrote what you wrote in your comment. I do understand about the boredom factor in summer. I think part of the reason is that you get a large amount of mental stimulation from your school experience. That is admirable. So, I suppose that the question becomes, how do kids like you and Tess, and, well, there must be many, many other folks who suffer similarly during the off months of summer–avoid those frustrating mind-numbing days?

What do other people do to relieve the summer blahs? Vacations only account for part of summer, and not everyone goes away during this time.

It must be said that teachers, too, fall into the snore vortex here and there during summer. No, we do not read, or plan, or write, or learn every minute.

Other thoughts on this? Ideas about making summer more exciting, or at least a tad more unboring?

For spring break I am going to….my house. But seriously only about 8 weeks. Well that really sucks.
Well when I’m bored in the summer I usually end up going to some camp in about a week so it doesn’t really matter that much. But my takes me to work with her (because I am too old to go to Adveture Club!!!!!!!) and one of my best friends is there. Usually Sam and I do fun stuff but last summer break Sam and I got really bored of eachother. That was not fun.
But this year I think that I will be a little less bored because I have learned how to knit. So far I have made a bunch of scarves, a couple of scarfs, and a pillow. But even that can get boring after a while.
So I really don’t know how to get rid of summer boredom except for maybe to go to like a group of people or somthing where you can hang out with them and talk and have fun.

Tess

P.s. Oh yeah the part I am not looking forward to in 8th grade is the unknown. I don’t know what to expect and I get to go to a whole new wing of the school that is even farther away from the lunch room. Yipee. (note the sarcasm).

During the summer I attempt many different things to erase boredom from my mind. I constantly download music and then listen to it. Late at night (around 11pm to 1 or 2am) I’ll stay up to read books. On those hot and sunny days, I tend to go swimming with my friends/family. I watch t.v. while doing lots and LOTS of sit ups!! Unlike some people, they’re so much fun in my opinion!! Also, I like to sit at the desk in my room and draw (usually portraits of people from books or magazines). Another thing I do all the time is bike riding. I love it when the wind hits my face as I can feel my legs burning (I tend to go especially fast…non-stop). When I’m not doing one of these things, you will find me daydreaming about the strangest and most random things.
