Ask an Alumni, or Ed, or Beatrice, or Ernie…

Hey, I think that Tess could be onto something.

What do you people think about a blog that intersects both current sixth graders and alumni?

This would be a place for sixth graders to ask questions of alumni, and for the alumni, not to necessarily give advice, but more share their own experiences.

So, for example, Ned, a current sixth grader, is struggling to keep up on his homework. So, Ned sends a comment to the blog, and alumni share their experiences about similar school struggles. Now Ned has the idea that:

1. He is not the only student that has had this struggle.

2. He can learn from other’s experiences.

3. Older students are people, too.

Let me know what you think about this, because I am not quite sure myself.

Well…
First of all, “Ned” could benefit from us all here on the allumni blog. Any question, book segestion, PAL- student council…

*yes Mr. Madden- they STILL haven’t found an adviser**COUGH, COUGH*

7th and 8th grade overall views, etc.

I like the idea.

I think it’s a fantastic idea to actually have the almni and the 6th graders communicate on the blog. At school, people in different grades usually don’t talk at all to each other, and I know that there are kids in 6th grade who would love to ask questions and talk to us.

That’s all for now,
Kaitlyn S.

So you are saying that you would have ablog for the alumni’s, a blog for the sixth graders, and a blog were sixth graders can ask alumni’s quetions? Is that what you’re saying? Because that would be sweet!

Delanie

Delanie is correct in her design:

A blog for alumni
A blog for 6thers

And, a blog where the two groups can communicate with each other.

Kaitlyn makes a good point, too, about 6thers wanting to ask questions of alumni.

I will let you know when I have this figured out. Until then, keep commenting!

-Mr. M

Mr. M- I love this idea. Like Kaitlyn said, the kids in our school like to only talk to the people in their grade ONLY, for some reason. I think this could be a chance for the 6th graders to learn some things from us, and maybe for us to learn something from them……..

Hi Mr. Madden!! I have a quick question that I’ve been pondering. What should the new blog be called? Everything that I’ve thought of so far seems to be too long.

Kaitlyn S.

I have a really stupid name you could call it, but who cares. Here it is……

MadwordsFAQ

Ha Ha, I am proud of myself that I actually thought of something. It’s okay, I know it is retarded! Just a (stupid) idea!

Delanie

Delanie,

Ideas are, by their very nature, wonderful. Just like yours!

-Mr. M

Hey Mr. Madden!!

I have two things that I want to say, but they’re not really part of the main subject for this post. I’m going to say them anyway though.

1) It was really cool that you got to do the announcements today! I knew it was you right from the very start. And you got to say that I had a call in. That was my first time, too. I only had one because I didn’t get my newsletter and stuff from my 6th hour teacher.

2) When we were on the bus after school today just as we were about to leave, I noticed that your car was parked going through two places (and the wrong way. I guess you could say it was horizontal). I was just wondering why because I’ve seen your car parked in similar ways before.

That’s all for now!!
Kaitlyn S.

I like the combined blog type thing, mostly because its my idea, but I think that Kaitlyn is right, all the 6th graders talk to the 6th graders, the 7th graders talk to the 7th graders and the 8th graders talk to the 8th graders. Sorry about the run-on setence. When I was in my first months of 6th grade iI always thought that the 7th and 8th graders were so big and smart. But now I realize that were not that big and smart.

Tess

P.s. I saw Kaitlyn reading Extras can I read it after her or is there already a waiting list?

If you say so……

Delanie

Kaitlyn,

Yes, on Fridays we (6th teachers) tend to be a bit, um, off on our parking.

And, yes, it was fun to do the EOTD announcements. I, of course, was honored to mention your name.

Tess,

No, no waiting list yet, so you are next on the list (KRS, take your time, no worries!)

Some new titles coming to the MadWords library next week.

By the way, I believe our awesome HMS library now has Extras, FYI, as well as some books I really am looking forward to reading, like Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac (by Gabrielle Zevin, author of Elsewhere).

The MadWords “cross-blog” should be up next week. Still don’t have a name, but I heard a good one from Jessi N. this morning.

Jessi, what was the name that you came up with again?

-Mr. M

Mr. Madden, my name was Madwords Mixed. i thought about it all day and couldnt think of anything else…sorry ha And yea i saw that fantastic park job today too( funny stuff)

Hey Mr. Madden,

I think that is a great idea to have a blog where 6th and 7th graders can talk to each other. It would give 6th graders a chance to ask former 6th graders questions out side of school.

I’m also trying to think of a name for the new blog. All of the ones I’ve thought of are really weird. What about Madwords Thow. For then and now. Hey I know it’s stupid but I just wanted to through something out there for people to think about.

Last but not least. I’m with Kaitlyn, your car was parked really funky. It wasn’t the first time.

Got to go

Bye

His parking doesn’t sound that bad. One day when I was at Meijers with my mom, we saw a tiny car that took up four spaces. It reminded me of four corners and how you can stand in four states at once.

Oh yeah I have a list of books you guys should read.

Eragon
Eldest (Eragon’s sequel)
TTYL & TTFN
Pretty Little Liars
I’m pretty sure you guys know, but the Twilight series
Princess Academy
Sealed With a Diss

Tess

Tess,
I’ve seen something just like that at the mall. Some women had a tiny car, I mean tiny, and took up three parking spaces. I was like what the heck.

You should read the book Sold. It’s in the library. It’s really disturbing in some parts but other than that it’s pretty good.

Mr. Madden, I’ve been looking at your MadWords Now blog and no one has responded to your post about the new blog! They’re writing about other things, but not that one. We have less people responding on this blog. Although, we’re responding more. The Now blog has many people going on it every day. The post has been up for a couple days now, too. It’s bothering me so much that they aren’t saying anything about the idea of a new blog. I’ve been wanting to know how they feel about it!

That’s all for now,
Kaitlyn S.

Haley that reminds me of this one time when i went to “STOMP” at the warton center and there was a sign that said compact cars only. the sign was there because it was a tight space and there was barley enough room to park. but sure enough there was a van parked there. I was like why park there oviously there’sw hard;y enough space so why bother parking there. it’s like the driver was to lazy to go find another spot. i hate it when people do that.

Kaitlyn,

Agreed on the notable deficiency of Now comments. Hmm. Advertising is a crucial part of these things, I have become convinced. Now that MEAP is done, I will remind kids of the idea, and let them know that alumni have an interest in their opinions.

Actually, it occurs to me that maybe what needs to be done is to just go ahead and create the blog, so that they have a visual. (My brother tells me that sometimes it’s more important to be decisive than it is to be right.)

I am guessing that the blog will have a slow start, and require patience and nurturing to gain attention.

Look for it by Wednesday.

Thanks, Kaitlyn!

-Mr. M

okay, so i have a question. I see that theirs talk about the 6tth graders not being intrested, or taking notice of a mixed blog?! they play a part in the blog ( the ones asking the questions) and without them their would be no blog…… so the question is, why make a mixed blog??

-jes

Tess,
I’m so with you!! It drives me crazy when people take up two or three parking spots, just because they are to lazy to go find a open parking spot with enough room fo them to park. How did we even get on this subject anyway??

Any way, I’m with Kaitlyn, I want to know what they think about the idea of having a combined blog!!

This is probably a stupid question but we are still going to have a blog for just seventh graders and sixth graders right!?!?!?

Oh, another question, I know I’m getting ahead of myself but are you going to have a blog for us next year when we are eighth graders? Again you don’t have to answer that right away because it’s so far away but just to keep in mind.

That’s all from me :) ))))))))
Haley
