Well, here it is August 24th, and time to head back to the ranch (my classroom) and get the doughnuts going (get my room ready).

Next week, I will be meeting a slew of new 6th graders, and I am becoming increasingly excited about this night.  You remember, yes?  The night you all came in and bopped from room to room, meeting the spooky trolls who became your teachers?

In any event, this is what I am looking forward to short-term on the new year list.  More to come.

What about all of you?  Have you thought much about 7th grade, and what it might be like?  The teachers, the new room locations, the different hallways, and so forth?  Remember, you are veteran middle schoolers now.  This is the same building you attended for nine months last school year.  Nothing scares you!  You’re a 7th grader!

So, what of it?  What are your hopes for this school year (and this means more than grades, yes?)?  What are your fears? (Be brave, we all have them.)  What are you excited about?  What are you moaning about?

I already know that you will have fantastic years.  Peaks and valleys, yes, but on the whole, big smiles.

How do I know this?  Because I know you, that is how.

My Fears:
First of all, I got my letter saying where my bus stop will be. I get picked up at 7:26 in the morning. I’m not too happy about that because that means I’m most likely one of the last stops where there are no seats left. I really hope I get to school early every day. I did in sixth grade and I loved it (even though all I usually did was sit there in my seat). Also, I don’t understand where my stop is in the morning. It looks likes it’s on the corner of Willow Highway and Candlewood Estates. It used to be in a driveway a little ways down. I was always the first one there by like 5 minutes, and I also loved that. My dad doesn’t want me to if it’s on the edge of a highway. Plus I have no idea who any of the teachers are (except Mr. Palacio). I want good ones. And I’m really hoping I don’t have gym.

My Excitements:
I’ll get to see everyone again!! I feel so lonely. I’ve only been with two friends this summer. I’m really happy to be able to wear pants and long sleeved shirts every day again. Plus, my birthday’s in the fall, so that’s a plus! Oh yeah, and I’ll hopefully be able to get to sleep easier (I keep having 1st day/last day nightmares every night). It usually takes me about 2 1/2 hours to get to sleep. Sad isn’t it?! Okay, that’s all I guess!!

Kaitlyn, have no fear. I experience the same jitters before the school year begins. I just want to get the first day finished so that I feel back in the groove again. (I don’t like having dreams about 11-foot-tall students with three eyes and that speak Russian backwards! No fooling.)

I do remember the sitting in the seat business at the beginning of the day, though. That was impressive.

Well, my number one fear is that the first time I get to see my schedule is in the first day of school! I am REALLY NERVOUS (so nobody irritate me!) because I am one of those people that get neurotic when I don’t what I’m doing, or where I’m going. (trust me)
I signed up to be a Link and I am worried that I will do something wrong to upset the student I am working with.(HELP!)Oh, I also don’t want gym either, your not alone Kaitlyn!

On the plus side, I am also happy to see all my friends again(all 3 of them!) because I haven’t seen any of them throughout the summer!I am also excited to see if any people changed, personality, appearance. . . .etc.

Delanie

This has nothing to do with going back to school, but another book in the Uglies, Pretties, and Specials trilogy. it is called Extras! I am really excited my self, it comes out in October! Yeah!

Delanie

Delanie I agree! I’m so freaked about getting my schedule that day… I’m the same way- I have to know where I’m going, when I’m doing it, and who is there.

Fear #2: I’m getting my hair cut on 29th- including five inches cut and side bangs, not so sure how thats going to turn out..,

Mr. M- I’ll see you at orientation… I have to be a PAL that day.

Good, I am glad i won’t be the only one freaking out!

Delanie

Delanie, I’m excited for Extra’s also. Can’t wait for October 2nd.

Haley, You’re going to look soo good!! Just make sure you’re bangs don’t get cut too much because a week ago Monday, I got my hair cut (well, trimmed) and I said that I wanted my bangs trimmed like usual and my hair dresser just kept trimming away. So I’ve had to clip my bangs back and take a lot of vitamins.

I’m really excited to see my friends again and, wear my new clothes. I also can’t wait to meet my new teachers. But I’m kinda anxious about getting my schedule 20 minutes before school starts. Delanie, do you know if we have to bring our band instrements to the first day of school????

Tess

P.s. scince you guys like reading pretties, and stuff I have a new suggestion to a book series. The Gatekeepers by: Anthony Horowitz, the gut who wrote Stormbreaker The first one Is called Raven’s Gate .

Tess, I asked Mrs.Zerman last year and she said to bring them in the second day of school.

Delanie

hi mr.madden,
I have thought about this going back to school stuff and one of the things that i dont like is, that we get our Schedule on the first day of school!!! I dont think that is fare because k-6 and 9-12 gets there schedule early but only 7th and 8th graders get it the first day. A nother thing that i dont like is that u have to get up early, whitch i dont like!!!!
charlie

Hi Mr Madden!!

I love doughnuts! Just kidding! Yes I do remember sixth grade orientation….It was nice talking to you there!

Well I am going into 8th Grade so I am pretty excited about that except for the fact that each year, homework increases. :-( Ha Ha

My hopes for this year are too meet new friends/expand groups of friends. And I hope to get ALL A’s!!!!!

My fears~
One of my fears is not having any of my friends in my class……but i can’t really complain because I can’t imagine the feeling of being a new kid and not knowing any one in the whole school! Another fear is being tardy. Thats not too fun because when u walk into the class room everybody looks at you and says, ” Your tardy ” and you wanna say, ” Yea, I know! ” but its not a big fear because I’m good at my locker combination!!

I am excited about seeing all my friends and just getting to see people who i haven’t seen over the summer. I’m also excited about seeing my past teachers and getting to meet my new ones!

I’m not moaning about any thing really!! ;-)

P.S. Nice Picture Mr. Madden!!!

*Ashley*

I’m really excited for middle school! It will be my first day of sixth grade! a concern of mine is being late for class, I’m not sure were all the classes are. but other than that I’m really excited! :)

Kelsey, you are most welcome to the 6th grade at Hayes! Try to remember that you have handled a bunch of years of school already. 6th is not so different, just new, which is exciting.

Some alumni (former students, now experts) can tell you about how not to be late for class.

(Also: Thanks, Ashley, for your support!)

See you Tuesday,
Mr. Madden

Your Welcome!!
