A nod to the future

As we head into the final turn of 6th grade for the Class of 2013, I am peeking ahead to the next school year (just a smidge).

Something that I am pondering is creating a multi-layered blog. I want to keep one similar to this blog, but I am also pretty sure that developing a blog to take the place of my homework web page might be a smart idea. In this way, students would only have to find one web site and receive all the information necessary to help them be successful in my English class.

Here are just a couple of examples of fairly decent designs for middle school blogs: BDS Middle School and Eric MacKnight.com. Check them out, and let me know what you think of the idea.

Remember, responding to the postings in cyberspace is virtually the same as adding your voice to classroom discussion. Take your words seriously, and people will take you seriously.

Nothing bears the power of words–choose yours with care.

Mr. Madden,

I think it’s a great idea to develop a blog to take the place of your homework web site. Currently for you site, all we get to do is see what our class does each day, and go to some of the links. If you had a blog instead, students could ask questions about what we have to do for the homework. You might get a lot of the same questions through e-mail about some of our homework right now. With the blog you will only get the question once, by one person. It will be answered for everyone. You still would be able to get the links and everything, too. That’s why I think it’s a great idea to develop a blog to take the place of your current homework web site.

I agree with Kaitlyn. No offense Mr.M, but the blogs getting a little “stale.” Connecting it all in one would make it alot easier. With homework questions, the weekly schedule, etc. everythings just so much more convenient. Sometimes (okay, I’ll admit alot of the time) I’m just too lazy to go and read everything. But if it’s there infront of my face, and ready too go things will be just alot easier.
P.S. Are you really looking forward to next year? That makes me sad, you already are tierd of us. Hehe, only kidding. Enjoy Spring Break everyone!

I definitely agree with Kaitlyn and Haley. If you combined the two pages it would be a lot easier to view. I love the blog but when I’m trying to view the homework at the same time I have to have keep two sites open, and that makes everything slower.

Mr. Madden
I personally disagree with all of you so far. If he combines the two and you only want to see what the homework was it’d be a pain to have to scroll down to look for it. Also if you wanted to just see the blog it would also have to the homework and I personally would get distracted and start looking at tomorrows homework and loose my train of thought.

P.S Instead of “peeking ahead” it sounds better to have “looking ahead.” Also your last sentence should be a part of the paragraph before it as it still is on the same topic and idea.

Wow since I got a blog my mom saw it and was like I’m going to write you comments Taylor! And I was like oh great. Mr.M’s sight is great and really gets us kids thinking but blogging is fun like making posts and just having fun amd talking to the world! If you click on “TC” next to the date my blog will pop up and you can find posts and other cool stuff and if you go to http://www.edublogs.org you can make your own blog too just like me and mr m! I think blogs are great and you should make one too!!!
